BDSM Publishers

This is a list of BDSM Publishers that I researched from the Internet. Unbound Books is my publisher and they were very responsive by e-mail. Chimera Books also responded to my query. Some include writer's guidelines, but you should confirm they haven't changed as well. I wrote to the ones who didn't have writer's guidelines on their websites, and none of them responded.

PRESENTATION:
All manuscripts must be typed.
Print on one side only of A4 paper using double-line spacing. Number all pages consecutively; do not start each chapter on page one.
Indicate breaks between sections within chapters by leaving one extra line of space.
Begin each chapter or section within a chapter flush to the left margin. Indent the first line of all other paragraphs using the Tab key.
Use three points (...) to indicate unfinished sentences, and a dash (-) to indicate a sentence interrupted or terminated abruptly.
Indicate dialogue with single quotation marks ('...'). Double quotation marks ("...") should be usede to denote figures of speech or quotations within dialogue.
Type titles (Mr, Mrs, Dr) and acronyms without stops.
Spell accurately. Use a dictionary, or the spell-check on your word processor.
Spell with (ise) and not (ize), ie. realise, recognise. Use okay as opposed to OK; no one as opposed to no-one.
Use italics for: emphasis; foreign words and phrases (except proper names, buildings and institutions); names of books, magazines, plays and musical works.
No apostrophes in phone, plane, bus, eighties, nineties, flu, 1920s, PCs etc.
o not use capitals for sir, madam, miss, count, duke etc (except when a title - eg 'Sir John Smith').
Use hyphens for composite adjectives (eg bitter-sweet, red-gold); do not use hyphens for "...ly" endings (eg 'fully dressed') or adverbs, except for "well", "ill", "new" and "old" when used before a noun (eg old-fashioned, well-known).

REQUIRED THEME:

Your novel should contain a plot built around males/some females dominating the central submissive female character(s). The story needs to contain S&M, bondage and CP (all of a sexual and not violent and spiteful nature). For the CP we are looking for caning and spanking, but be careful, as a heroine stumbling from one beating to the next is physically unrealistic, and can become monotonous. These themes should be used as integral ingredients of the plot and to enhance imaginative and exciting sex using varied methods, clothing, toys/implements and settings.

Any era or location can be used for your story, but be careful to be accurate with detail.

Your story must take the reader into an erotic and highly stimulating fantasy (escapist yet believable).

Female narrative viewpoint characters are preferred. You can change viewpoint from chapter to chapter or scene to scene, but do not change in mid-scene.

Limit the use of obscene words when describing the anatomy. Obscene words are not necessarily erotic.

Do not send us a humorous novel. Humour does not work in the narrative of an erotic novel, although your characters can possess a sense of humour if and where appropriate.

THE LIMITS:
All sex must be consensual. Although the required theme is one of domination and submission, be careful not to step over the line into the realms of rape. This and the hatred of women are not acceptable whatsoever.

No bestiality.
No underage sex.
No incest.
No 'golden rain'.
No branding.
No sexual acts that can cause bloodshed, physical damage, or emotional anguish.

WHAT TO SUBMIT:

We do not publish short stories, although we may consider a compilation of short stories. The finished novel should be 75,000 to 80,000 words in length, and in the first instance we require three chapters and a full synopsis. If you would like your manuscript returned please enclose a self-addressed envelope and enough postage to cover its despatch.

Good Luck! We look forward to receiving some of your work soon...

SM 101
GREENERY PRESS

Guidelines for nonfiction books (Greenery Press):
Your best bet for selling a book to us is to develop a well-written and well-organized how-to book on some aspect of human sexuality, preferably an aspect that has not been extensively written about in the past. We prefer books between 30,000 and 80,000 words in length, although we have accepted books which are both longer and shorter. We like books with a distinct authorial voice and a touch of humor. We insist on an extremely responsible stance on issues of consent and safety.
We are probably not interested in:
- personal memoirs (unless you are well-known or your life has been extraordinary)
- general BDSM or sexuality how-tos (although we are definitely interested in specialty or niche books in these areas)
humor or poetry
- books that are primarily visual (e.g., graphic novels or coffee-table books)
- books about sexual politics or philosophy
However, we've been known to break all these rules at some time if the material is good enough.

GUIDELINES FOR FICTION BOOKS (GRASS STAIN PRESS):
GRASS STAIN PRESS IS NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS. THIS POLICY MAY CHANGE IN THE FUTURE.
How to submit your book:
Do not send us complete manuscripts. Do not send manuscripts, queries or samples by e-mail.
Send us an outline or synopsis plus two sample chapters, along with a cover letter explaining who you think would read your book and why. If you want your materials returned to you, enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope of an appropriate size and with sufficient postage.
Please understand that we are a very small company and that our editorial staff is pressed for time. It may take several months or more for us to get back to you.

OLYMPIA PRESS

Olympia Press

Please tell editors/publishers you read their guidelines on the
Erotica Readers & Writers Association Website
www.erotica-readers.com

Writing for Olympia often gives new writers the confidence to try the bigger firms, often with great success. We purchase no exclusive rights to your work, just the right to publish at our discretion. Apart from this, you are completely free to market your work through other outlets as you wish.

Currently, we release several new erotic novels of 30,000 to 35,000 word length ONLY in the Bondage/S&M genre, with a strong bias toward male dom, every month. Sales are mainly direct to our customers by way of our mail order organisation, though we also supply a variety of other small outlets (mostly sex shops and adult book shops) both here and in Europe and marginally in the USA. We do not have an outlet for short stories of any kind.

Please be aware, that despite our small staffing level, we do achieve and maintain high standards of writing and story ideas. Our customers come back to us month after month; so if we do not consistently provide good-quality material, we will lose them.

We are also looking for books to put directly onto our website; this is a good way of placing a book which perhaps would not sell very well in hard copy but which might well earn additional money by being ordered as an e-text. Several books have been quite successfully marketed in this way as there are no print costs involved.

Payment is by royalty only there is no advance but the author does begin to earn royalties from the very first month as they are paid on a monthly basis. You get £1 per book sold through the mail order outlet and £1 per copy sold electronically.

Contact us at 36 Union Street, Ryde, IOW PO33 2LE or via our email address, olympia@bound.demon.co.uk or check out our website at www.olympia-press.co.uk

We look forward to hearing from you.

DISCIPLINE BDSM Magazine out of Montreal
For more information contact: jeanluc@disciplinemagazine.com
www.disciplinemagazine.com

The idea of the magazine is to give a 'news' forum to the scene. It's primary goal is to act as a link between fetishists, and talk about what is going on locally: who's doing what, where, when. We try to have news from as many places as possible. We list local events and are always looking for local content (interviews, local writers, that sort of thing). We are an information-based digest size publication. This is not your typical glossy photo filled fetish magazine, nor will it become that. We think it's got to be affordable and relevant, so that people can keep up with what is happening around them.

To Order: Just send a check or money order, etc. We will ship anywhere we can. The magazine costs $4.99 plus shipping (typically around $2). Send a money order to Discipline Magazine PO Box 60156 Montreal, Qc Canada H2J 4E1. We ship in plain unidentifiable envelopes. You can PayPal copies directly to claudia@ircbar.com
